Lowchens can usually be socialized to do well with other pets; however, despite their small size, they have a dominant streak and will exhibit dominant behavior even toward larger pets. Lowchens can live in an apartment if they are walked every day.

At one time, Lowchens were considered the rarest dogs in the world. Lowchens have often been depicted in works of art. The Lowchen is closely related to the Bichon Frise.
